Japan May 2007 : Nijo Castle (Nijojo), Kyoto

Since I saw a temple the day before, I thought visitng a castle would be nice - initially, it was a very hard decision between Sanjusangendo and Nijo Castle.

I took the subway from Kyoto Station to Nijo Station and walked about 20 minutes (it was terribly hot and humid!)

It was nice to see gingko trees lining some parts of the street towards Nijo Castle.
People, people, people everywhere - taking photos without hman form in it was a difficult task. Visitors came in busloads. Entrance fee : JPY600 for an adult. No photo-taking is allowed indoors. The other beautiful part about this castle is the building's details, the garden and the artwork covering the ceiling and walls inside.

I also went to Honmaru Palace situated next door.

One tip before visiting Nijo Castle : Wear proper shoes as grounds are gravelly - best if covered, without heels totally a must and easy to remove since it is a must to enter the castle without shoes.
